NoDrone Zone Integrated Research Project
POR FESR 2014/2020
Lazio Regional Operational Plan - European Regional Development Fund
Grant amount of €126,973.19 received during 2019 (in compliance with Law no. 124 of 4 August 2017)
OBJECTIVE:
MPM is developing with its partner La Sapienza University of Rome - Department of Information, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering, an integrated research project called No Drone Zone (NDZ). The project is in agreement with both the Smart Specialisation Strategy (S3) areas identified in the regional context and the sectoral requalification policies in the Aerospace and Security sector.
The project is co-financed by the Lazio Region within the reindustrialisation and industry 4.0 programme.
The recent availability and diffusion on the market of commercial UAVs (Unmanned Air Vehicles), commonly called drones, has led to increased risks for the safety of people and infrastructure. For this reason, there is a need for 'anti-drone-detection' systems capable of detecting the presence of drones, identifying their position and implementing appropriate techniques in order to neutralise them. Unlike systems designed for the interception of drones with military characteristics, commercial systems for the detection and abatement of commercial drones must have limited costs and great ease of deployment and implementation.
The NDZ project, promoted by MPM Telecommunications in partnership with the Department of Information, Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering (DIET) of the Sapienza University of Rome, aims to create a hardware and a software platform able to respond in real time to the threat of commercial drones with the use of advanced technologies.
The objectives of the project are: analysis of devices on the market and identification of their weak points; the technological study of detection and analysis of the engineering and economic impact of devices on the market; the integrability of the technical solutions designed with existing ones; the validation of the integrated system.
